About His Holiness Radhanath Swami

His Holiness Radhanath Swami is a Vaishnava sanyassin (a monk in a Krishna-bhakti lineage) and teacher of the devotional path of Bhakti-yoga. Born in Chicago on 7th December 1950, Radhanath Swami in his teens set out to wander the world on a spiritual quest with a few friends, hitchhiking from America to Europe and all the way through the Middle East into India. Living as a wandering mendicant Radhanath Swami travelled across the country meeting many mystic yogis, sadhus and rishis, all the while absorbing like a sponge, the essence of their teachings. In a turn of events he stumbled into the Holy land of Mathura which in turn led him to Vrindavan.

In Vrindavan he found the teacher he was searching for in His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada (1896-1977) the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), and representative of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, (the Krishna-bhakti tradition stemming from the 16th century mystic avatar Sri Chaitanya). In choosing Bhaktivedanta Swami, as his guru, Radhanath Swami felt compelled to shear his matted locks and renter Western society with a mission to share the sacred wisdom he had received. This return exemplifies the form of devotional yoga which is at the heart of Radhanath Swami’s teachings, a spiritual practice expressed as tangible action meant to bring about personal fulfillment and benefit the world.

Radhanath Swami has attracted many souls into his service, both to his community in Mumbai as well as during his annual visits to many different countries. Today he has thousands of students in India, the United States, Europe, and elsewhere. All of them are bound together by the faith that Radhanath Swami has awakened in them and the tangible impact that his teachings have had on their lives. His viewpoint is non-sectarian, and even many of those who come from different spiritual traditions have found much that is beneficial in his words. In an age when many of the worst ideologies and movements present themselves in the guise of religion, Radhanath Swami’s realizations have been found to be a refreshing return to the purity of genuine wisdom by many who have been disappointed elsewhere.
